CRM buyers view the Cloud as "mystery meat" - Gartner

 In the early 2000s, Salesforce.com and RightNow emerged as the champions of Cloud, promoting it loudly but failing to actually identify the term and how it differed from application outsourcing.

According to Gartner’s CRM analyst Michael Moaz, not much has changed in 2013: “By strenuously refusing to reveal the critical elements of Cloud application architecture, the market for Cloud, and the subset of software as a service (SaaS), is akin to the mystery meat served in your High School cafeteria when you were a kid. What, exactly, is that stuff?” he says in a new blog post.

But understanding what the term means matters, he says. For instance, what if you’re running your opderations in Europe and you’re data centre is based in the US? The laws of physics will catch up with you if you are integrating old legacy system data with data sitting in an ACD / IVR / CTI application in another country, and an application server and multi-tenant data server sitting in a another country.
